Tutorial:
Original Performance:
Alright guys, I’ve finally prepared my first piano cover tutorial! It’s a tutorial for my version of Lana Del Rey’s Dark Paradise.
This is a visual representation of the sheets I’ve written based on my original cover. The sheet progression as well as the notes with letter names are played along with a mechanical recording of the sheet in a slower tempo than original. Depending on whether you can read notes or not, there are two ways you could approach learning the piece:
* If you can read sheet music, I’d recommend you to download the sheets (link below) and try playing along with the video. The video would help you get the rhythm right. After you’ve become comfortable with the piece, you can add your own dynamics or refer to my cover to see how I’ve played it.
* If you can’t read sheet music, try learning the song in parts. Ideally you should play the video next to a piano and keep on learning and memorizing the song bit by bit. Although the tempo is slower than usual, it might still seem too fast initially, so please take your time and go through it in smaller parts.
Note that I haven’t tried simplifying this arrangement in any way, but feel free to simplify parts of it, if you wish. Especially the left hand can be played much more simply (just ignore all the octave repetitions and play one long octave in each chord). Also, I haven’t put any pedal markings, so feel free to add pedal wherever needed. It really depends on your taste, your instrument, and the acoustics of your surroundings.
This is my first time doing something like this and your feedback and suggestions are really valuable to me, so please let me know if I can improve the tutorial in any way, since I’m planning on making tutorials for more covers. Also please let me know if you notice any mistakes anywhere. If you learn the piece and decide to record it, I’d be happy to listen to your interpretation of the song! 🙂
